Over-protrusion of teeth

The upper teeth can become overly protruded due to thumb-sucking or lip biting habits, or result from to an abnormal lip posture due to a small lower jaw. Upper teeth that are protruded are prone to injury, as the front teeth stick forward of the mouth. They often get knocked by balls, bats, rackets, furniture, or sustain injury in a fall, resulting in tooth fracture.

Orthodontic treatment is needed to get the protruded teeth pulled back in. Teeth may or may not need to be extracted to provide space to move these teeth back.
